Summer BDSM Gear Care: Tips for Protecting Leather from Sweat and Humidity

Thank you very much for purchasing a Liebe Seele product.

In this guide, we would like to introduce how to care for your genuine leather products.

We will explain how to clean and store your items after use and when they will not be used for a long period.

Damage to Leather

If genuine leather products are not properly cared for after being exposed to sweat or water, they lose their moisture and natural oils, which leads to drying. This dryness can cause the leather to harden or crack. Additionally, leaving dirt on the leather during humid periods or using incorrect storage methods can cause mold, which may render the product unusable.

Care Instructions

After use, genuine leather products may be covered in various impurities such as sweat, water, and body fluids. Leaving behind salts from sweat or oils from sebum can degrade the leather's surface and provide nutrients for mold and odor-causing bacteria.

Step 1: Wipe off dirt

Use a tightly wrung-out towel or a damp wipe with very little moisture to remove any sweat, body fluids, or water from the surface of the leather. Be careful not to scrub too hard with a wet towel, as this may cause the color to fade.

Step 2: Moisturize and coat

Gently wipe away any remaining moisture from cleaning and let the leather dry thoroughly. Once dry, carefully apply a thin layer of leather cream to ensure it absorbs evenly. The cream prevents the leather from drying out. After treatment, let the leather rest for 2 to 3 days. Once it has rested, apply a waterproofing spray to the entire surface. This spray helps prevent sweat and body fluids from soaking into the leather during use.

Storage Methods

Storing leather in high-humidity areas causes mold. However, storing it in dry areas like under direct sunlight or directly under an air conditioner can lead to cracking on the surface due to UV rays and dehydration.

Step 1: Avoid window sills and stagnant air

Leather is sensitive to both humidity and dryness. Storing it in humid bathrooms, on window sills exposed to UV rays, or near air conditioners where dry air blows directly can cause mold and cracking.
Therefore, we recommend storing items in a closet or bedroom that is not exposed to direct sunlight and where humidity does not easily accumulate.

Step 2: Store in a breathable bag with a desiccant

If you do not plan to use the product for a long time, store it in the storage bag sold by Liebe Seele or a thick cloth bag. When storing, include something to absorb moisture, such as Binchotan charcoal, a commercial desiccant, or a wrapping of newspaper.
